In the early 1970's Long Island Business Teachers Association (LIBTA) was formerly known as LIBEC, a group of Long Island Business Education Chairpersons. It consisted of several business department chairpersons throughout Nassau and Suffolk County High Schools. One of the initial founders of this group was Ellen Caskey, for which this scholarship is named in her honor. She was Business Department Chairperson at Connetquot High School in Bohemia for many years.

As time progressed and chairpersons were replaced by High School Assistant Principals, LIBEC transformed into Long Island Business Education Council, and Business Teachers were accepted into the membership. This group became one of the groups on Long Island that represented Business Teachers. Two other associations were Suffolk County Business Teachers Association (SCBTA) and Nassau County Business Teachers Association (NCBTA). Several scholarships continued to be awarded to deserving high school seniors who were pursuing their post-secondary education in Business Administration or Business Education by these 3 groups.

Several years later, LIBEC merged with Suffolk County Business Teachers' Association (SCBTA) and became Long Island Business Teachers Association (LIBTA). Nassau County Business Teachers' Association dissolved and those teachers joined LIBTA. LIBTA now represents member schools throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties. Scholarships, including the Ellen Caskey Memorial Scholarship, are awarded the deserving seniors who are pursuing their post-secondary education in Business Administration or Business Education.
